Why Ricochet Witch Is Still the Queen in 2026

Honestly, I've tried every Amara build under the sun — I respecced 47 times before finally settling on the Ricochet Witch as my daily driver, and I'm not exaggerating that number. The core idea is so stupidly simple that it almost feels like cheating: you Phasegrasp one enemy, Ties That Bind links every enemy within 8 meters sharing 35% of all damage, and then every bullet from a Jakobs Call weapon ricochets between the linked targets, creating an exponential damage chain where a single crit turns into 15-20 ricochet bounces and each bounce hits 3-5 linked enemies. I mean, you can clear an entire Slaughter Shaft wave with one Phasegrasp and two trigger pulls if the mob density is right — and trust me, with the Maliwan Takedown's tight corridors it happens constantly.

The math behind it is what makes it insane at Mayhem 10+. Rowan's Call ricochets 2 bullets per crit, and those ricochets can also crit — so with a Phasezerker class mod boosting your gun damage by 4% per Rush stack (up to 99 stacks, so 396% gun damage at max), your first crit ricochets two bullets with 396% bonus damage, those two ricochet bullets crit on linked targets and each spawns two more ricochets with 396% bonus damage, and within 0.3 seconds you've got 14 projectiles in the air all cross-bouncing between 4-6 Ties That Bind-linked enemies, each dealing 35% of the original 396%-buffed crit damage to every linked target. The damage multiplication is genuinely ridiculous — I've seen a single Rowan's Call crit on a Phasegrasped mob chain into 117 million total damage spread across 7 linked enemies in under 1.5 seconds. Not gonna lie, the first time I saw it happen I laughed out loud because the entire screen just filled with red numbers and then everything was dead.

Skill Tree Allocation — 51 Points, No Flex

So here's the thing about the Ricochet Witch tree — you cannot afford to drop a single point if you want this build to work at Mayhem 10+, and I learned this the hard way when I tried to save 3 points by skipping Indiscriminate and the build just fell apart entirely. The mandatory path is 26 points in Fist of the Elements and 25 points in Mystical Assault, and every single skill choice feeds into either the ricochet chain mechanic or your survivability because you're standing in the open holding fire and facetanking everything.

Fist of the Elements (26 points): 5/5 Anima (status effect duration +40%, increases Ties That Bind link duration to 9.6 seconds), 5/5 Steady Hands (handling +32% and accuracy, absolutely essential for landing headshots with Jakobs Call weapons since they have that classic Jakobs recoil), 5/5 Infusion (40% gun damage converted to action skill element, lets you double-dip elemental bonuses from your ASE anointment and action skill element), 3/3 Illuminated Fist (75% melee damage + your melee gets action skill element, used only for Facepuncher sustain but it's the one point I'd flex if you're not running Facepuncher), 5/5 Tempest (30% shock damage boost, which is your ASE anointment element 90% of the time), 3/3 Indiscriminate — this is the make-or-break skill, the bullet ricochet on Phasegrasp that enables the entire chain mechanic, and if you skip this you're not playing Ricochet Witch, you're playing a very sad gun Amara.

Mystical Assault (25 points): 5/5 Do Harm (action skill damage +4.5% per kill, stacks 99 times), 5/5 Alacrity (reload speed +25%, and with Rowan's Call you reload constantly since you're always firing), 5/5 Violent Tapestry (status effect chance +40% per Rush stack, at 25 stacks that's 1000% status chance and you'll be applying phase-element DOTs on every bullet), 3/3 Awakening (all Rush skill effects +30%, which boosts Do Harm from 4.5% to 5.85% per stack and Violent Tapestry from 40% to 52% per stack — at 25 Rush stacks that's the difference between 1000% and 1300% status chance), 5/5 Wrath (gun damage +20% max), 1/1 Remnant (overkill damage orb on kill, and with the ricochet chain doing 30-50M overkill per mob, the Remnant orb inherits 596% of the overkill as a single projectile that seeks the next enemy — I've had Remnant orbs one-shot Badass Zealots at full HP), 1/1 Avatar (lets you Phasegrasp while Phasegrasp is active, effectively doubling your action skill uptime and your Ties That Bind window).

The remaining 4 points from the level 55 cap go into 2/5 Fast Hands (reload speed stacking with Alacrity for near-instant Rowan's Call reloads) and 2/5 From Rest (fire rate +8%). Every single point here serves the ricochet chain — more action skill uptime, bigger status DOTs on linked targets, faster reload for more bullets in the air.

Mandatory Gear — Do Not Substitute Any of This

I can't stress this enough: the Ricochet Witch rotation only works with the exact gear below because the ricochet mechanic on Jakobs Call weapons is unique and no other manufacturer has the "ricochet 2 bullets on crit" behavior. I wasted an entire weekend trying to make a Hyperfocus work with this build and it just doesn't — the ricochet projectiles from Hyperfocus don't carry the Ties That Bind damage share for some reason, probably a bug but we're stuck with it.

Weapons (in order of priority): Rowan's Call (radiation element, x1 projectile, assault rifle) — this is your main mobbing weapon and you'll use it 80% of the time. The radiation explosion on kill chains through Ties That Bind and each explosion deals 45% of the target's max HP as radiation splash so linked enemies chain-explode each other. Farm this from Red Rain in the Slaughter Star 3000. Brainstormer (shock, x7 pellets, Hyperion shotgun) for shield stripping — the chain lightning arcs between Ties That Bind-linked enemies and each arc deals 85% of the initial pellet damage, so a single Brainstormer shot at 7x pellets into 5 linked enemies produces 35 lightning arcs totaling roughly 740K shock damage against shielded enemies. King's Call (fire or corrosive, x3 projectile, Jakobs pistol) for single-target boss damage — the 3 projectiles each ricochet 2 on crit, so one trigger pull produces 9 bullets in the air against a boss with a big crit spot like Graveward or Tyreen. For the full legendary weapons farm list with drop locations, check the database.

Shield: Re-Charger (30% chance to instantly refill shield on break, 20-second cooldown) — this is your survivability because with 5/5 Sustainment (4% life steal on elemental damage, which is every bullet since Infusion makes 40% of gun damage your action skill element), you heal to full HP every trigger pull so the only thing that kills you is one-shot mechanics, and Re-Charger gives you a 30% chance per one-shot to just say "no thanks." Stop-Gap is the alternative (5 seconds of invulnerability on shield break, 20-second cooldown) for boss runs where you know the damage patterns and can time the invulnerability window. I'd only use Stop-Gap on Wotan runs — for general mobbing Re-Charger is better because the random chance works out to more total survivability over a long fight.

Class Mod: Phasezerker (Rush stacks give +4% weapon damage and +3% action skill cooldown rate per stack, caps at 99 stacks). The perfect roll has +3 Anima, +2 Clarity, and passives for +31% assault rifle damage, +45% Jakobs crit damage, and +25% weapon damage — I spent literally 200 hours farming the Trial of Fervor for this roll and found exactly one that had two of the three passives. The class mod guide has the full passive roll table if you want to know what's possible.

Artifact: Pearl of Ineffable Knowledge (consecutive hits grant +1% damage per hit up to 90% max, capped in about 1.2 seconds with Rowan's Call's fire rate). The passive rolls you want are +17% fire rate and +40% magazine size — the fire rate reduces the time to cap Pearl stacks from 1.2s to 0.78s, and mag size on Rowan's Call takes it from 32 rounds to 45, which means you can hold the trigger 40% longer before reloading and that's 40% more ricochet chains per magazine.

Grenade: It's Piss (enemies hit take +20% damage for 6 seconds). Throw this before starting your Phasegrasp rotation on badass enemies or anointed — the 20% debuff multiplies with Ties That Bind's 35% damage share, meaning linked enemies take 35% of 120% of the original damage, effectively 42% damage share instead of 35%. That 7% difference doesn't sound like much but it's the difference between a two-tap and a three-tap on Mayhem 10+ anointed enemies.

Anointment Selection

Weapon anointments: While Phasegrasp is active, weapon damage is increased by 250% — this is the absolute best anointment for mobbing because it's permanently active during your Phasegrasp rotation and the 250% applies to the ricochet projectiles. Grenade anointment: On Action Skill End, gain 50% bonus elemental damage for 10 seconds — apply shock as your bonus element to double up on Brainstormer synergy. Rotate between the best grenade mods depending on content. Shield anointment: On Action Skill Start, activate any shield break or fill effects — this procs Re-Charger's instant refill on Phasegrasp start, giving you a full shield bar every 8 seconds of Phasegrasp.

Playstyle Loop and Mayhem Modifiers

The gameplay loop is genuinely the simplest rotation in BL4: throw It's Piss at the densest group → Phasegrasp the center enemy → aim at a crit spot on any linked enemy → hold trigger until everything is dead. That's it. The only nuance is target priority — you always want to Phasegrasp the enemy in the center of the pack because Ties That Bind has an 8-meter link radius and you want maximum enemies inside that sphere. If you Phasegrasp an enemy at the edge of the pack, half the mobs won't be linked and the ricochet chain fizzles. Against bosses, Phasegrasp an add near the boss (Ties That Bind still links the boss if they're within 8 meters of the grasped add), then fire at the boss's crit spot — the linked add takes 35% damage share but the ricochets bounce off the boss into the add and back to the boss, creating a double-damage feedback loop on the boss. Dead serious, this melts Killavolt in 4 Phasegrasps even on True Takedown Mayhem 10.

Mayhem Modifier Picks: Easy tier — Galaxy Brain (huge head hitboxes = harder to miss crits, and since your entire damage chain depends on landing the first crit to start the ricochet cascade, this is a straight DPS upgrade), Healy Avenger (the healing drones give you free Second Wind targets, and since you're healing constantly with Sustainment you're never actually threatened by the heal), Acid Reign (free corrosion on everything, irrelevant since you have Sustainment). Medium tier — the Post Mortem skull is free damage. Hard tier — avoid Holy Crit entirely (reduces non-crit damage by 50%, and while you're always aiming for crits the ricochet bullets don't always crit, so you'd be gimping 30% of your damage). Avoid Rogue Lite (you die once and it's over, and with a build this fast-paced and shield-dependent you will die to random one-shots about once per Takedown). If you want to push Mayhem modifiers harder, check the full Mayhem mode guide for the complete tier list.
