Honestly Claptrap is the most annoying and simultaneously most beloved character in the Borderlands franchise and BL4 continues that proud tradition with a full set of side missions that range from genuinely hilarious to frustratingly tedious, I've completed every Claptrap mission in the game and while some of them are just fetch quests disguised as comedy others lead to genuinely good rewards and even unlock a secret boss fight that most players don't know about, here's every Claptrap side quest in the game with walkthroughs and reward details

Claptrap Mission Overview

Claptrap appears on Sanctuary III as a permanent NPC this time instead of just being a quest giver, he has his own room in the Cargo Hold area and his missions are available in stages as you progress through the main story, there are 7 Claptrap side quests total plus one hidden Claptrap-related boss encounter that you unlock by completing all his quests

Claptrap's Big Break

The first Claptrap mission is available as soon as you reach Sanctuary III for the first time, Claptrap asks you to go back to the Droughts on Pandora to retrieve his "lucky wheel" which he says is essential for his morale (it's actually just a squeaky toy wheel strapped to his back), the mission involves fighting through a small bandit camp on the east side of the Droughts and opening a locked chest containing the wheel

The reward is Claptrap's Stash which contains a random weapon scaled to your level and some cash, it's not a game-changing reward but it's a nice boost for early game characters and the mission takes about 5 minutes including travel time, definitely worth doing for the XP alone

Muscle Memory

Claptrap wants to build a "muscle" for his chassis so he can open jars and do other tasks that require grip strength, naturally he sends you to Konrad's Hold to find "Cyberpunk" parts which are actually just salvaged Maliwan robot limbs that look nothing like what Claptrap described, the mission area is in the maintenance tunnels beneath Konrad's Hold where you fight through a small Maliwan outpost

The reward is the Claptrap's Pommel melee weapon skin which makes your weapon look like it has a claw attachment when you melee, purely cosmetic but it's a unique skin that you can't get anywhere else and it's genuinely funny watching Claptrap's stubby arm animation when you inspect it in the menu

Dance Dance Revolution

This is the best Claptrap mission in the game and it's absolutely unmissable, Claptrap has installed a dance floor in his room on Sanctuary III and asks you to go to Floodmoor Basin to find "rare beats" for his playlist, the beats are actually just recordings of gunfire explosions and enemy death sounds that Claptrap thinks are music

The mission leads you to a rave-themed bandit camp in Floodmoor Basin where you fight a named enemy called DJ Skizmix who drops the Party Time grenade mod, this is a unique blue-rarity grenade that creates a disco ball effect on impact and plays music while it's active, it's not a meta grenade by any means but it's one of the most entertaining items in the game and the music it plays is genuinely catchy

Claptrap's Secret Stash

This mission sends you to Voracious Canopy on Eden-6 where Claptrap claims he buried a stash of "valuable treasures" before the events of the game, predictably the stash contains mostly junk but there is one guaranteed purple weapon at the end, the treasure hunt involves following a series of increasingly ridiculous clues that Claptrap left for himself, each clue pointing to the next location

The clue trail takes you across three different named locations in Voracious Canopy and the final stash is guarded by a Badass Tink which is an easy fight but the Tink has a higher-than-normal loot drop rate so kill it before opening the stash for extra gear, the reward is a random purple weapon (can be any type any manufacturer) plus 10,000 cash

Stairs? No Thanks!

This is a callback to Claptrap's famous hatred of stairs and the mission tasks you with finding and destroying all staircases in the Meridian Metroplex because Claptrap is convinced the Maliwan are building stairs specifically to inconvenience him, the mission is a series of 5 objectives scattered across the Metroplex where you destroy marked staircases with explosives

The reward is the Claptrap's Wheel vehicle skin which adds a giant squeaky wheel decal to the side of your vehicle, and 20 Eridium which is a nice bonus, the mission is a bit tedious because you have to run across the entire Meridian Metroplex map to find all 5 staircases but the dialogue is worth it

Birthday Party Planning

Claptrap has decided it's his birthday (it's not his birthday, he just picked a random date) and wants you to gather supplies for a party on Athenas, the mission involves collecting balloons from a bandit camp, cake ingredients from a diner, and party hats from a group of Maliwan soldiers who apparently decided to wear party hats instead of helmets for some reason

The reward is the Party Popper shield which is a unique legendary-tier shield that releases confetti and balloons when it breaks, the balloons will distract nearby enemies for a few seconds which actually has some tactical value beyond the comedy factor, the shield capacity is mediocre but the distraction effect is surprisingly useful for reviving teammates in a pinch

Claptrap's Revenge

This is the final Claptrap mission and it's a significant step up in difficulty from the others, Claptrap has tracked down his arch-nemesis — a wheeled garbage can that he claims stole his girlfriend (Claptrap does not have a girlfriend) — and wants you to help him get revenge, the mission takes place in the Desolate Sands on Nekrotafeyo where the "boss" is actually a giant loader bot with a garbage can decal

The reward is the Fragtrap's Legacy legendary class mod which is actually a genuinely good item, it boosts your grenade capacity by +2 and has a chance to spawn a mini-Claptrap that fights alongside you when you throw a grenade, this is a viable class mod for grenade-centric builds especially on Moze and it's the best reward from any Claptrap mission by a wide margin

Secret Boss: Claptrap's Creation

After completing all 7 Claptrap side missions you unlock a secret boss fight against Claptrap's Creation, a massive mashup of all the parts Claptrap collected during his missions assembled into a giant robot that immediately goes rogue and attacks Sanctuary III, the boss appears in an arena that opens up in the Desolate Sands after you've completed all missions

Claptrap's Creation is a multi-phase boss fight that's roughly equivalent in difficulty to a Circle of Slaughter final wave, it has three phases with increasing attack patterns and the loot drop includes a guaranteed legendary from Claptrap-specific loot pool plus a cosmetic skin called the "Claptrap Unit" which makes your character look like a Claptrap

Honestly the Claptrap missions are worth doing just for the comedy even if some of the rewards are mediocre, the writing team clearly had fun with these quests and there are some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments especially the dance party mission, and the final reward — the Fragtrap's Legacy class mod — is actually a strong endgame item that I still use on my Moze grenade build, so there's a practical reason to complete the chain beyond just completionism
