Honestly Gearbox learned their lesson from BL3's messy DLC strategy where they had multiple season passes and content packs that were confusing to keep track of, for BL4 they streamlined everything into a single Season Pass with four major story DLCs plus additional content drops that are free for all players, but the DLC landscape in 2026 is still evolving with new content being announced and released so here's the complete guide to what's available what's coming and whether the Season Pass is worth your money

Season Pass Overview

The Borderlands 4 Season Pass includes four major story DLC expansions plus the Guns, Love, and Tentacles cosmetic pack and early access to the Vault Card Season 1 premium track, the Season Pass costs $49.99 USD which is the same price as the BL3 Season Pass at launch, each DLC adds a new planet or area a full story campaign of 8-12 hours new enemy types new legendary gear and new side quests

DLC 1: Xylourgos — Frozen Frontier

Xylourgos is the launch DLC that comes included with the base game and it's absolutely massive for a launch day DLC, it adds an entire frozen planet with a full story campaign new enemy faction (frozen creatures and ice-themed bandits) and the Guardian Takedown which is the hardest endgame activity in the game, the planet has 5 main zones: the Scraptrap Nest, Xylourgos Settlement, Frigid Basin, Glacial Pass, and Harker's Fort

The story of Xylourgos involves a stranded Vault Hunter who went missing on the ice planet decades ago and a mysterious signal that's been broadcasting from the planet's core, the main villain is Harker a rogue Dahl commander who has been experimenting with Eridian technology to create an army of ice mutants, the final boss is the Ruiner a massive frozen Vault Monster that drops some of the best legendary loot in the game

Xylourgos also introduces the cryo rework to the general population since many enemies on the planet have cryo weapons and teach you how to deal with the frozen status effect before you encounter it in the main game, the exclusive legendaries from this DLC include the Ruiner's Bane (Vladof heavy weapon with cryo chain explosions) and the Frostbite (Maliwan SMG that freezes enemies on critical hits)

DLC 2: Blood and Bullets

Blood and Bullets is the first premium DLC and it takes place in the Promethea Underhive a massive subterranean city beneath Meridian Metroplex that was overrun by a rogue military AI, the story follows a new character named Silas who was a former Atlas soldier trapped in the Underhive for years and needs your help to shut down the AI that's been running a battle simulation in the city for decades

The Underhive is a sprawling vertical map with multiple levels connected by elevators and ziplines, the enemy faction is rogue Atlas mechs and drones that have been modified by the rogue AI, there are also human bandits who have formed their own society in the dark levels of the Underhive

Blood and Bullets adds 3 new legendary weapon types including the Peacemaker (a revolver that fires ricocheting bullets that bounce between enemies) and the AI Core (a shield that deploys a defensive drone on shield break), plus the level cap increase from 72 to 75 which adds 3 additional skill points per character for deeper build customization

DLC 3: Eridian Prophecy

Eridian Prophecy is the most story-important DLC as it takes players to the Nexus the homeworld of the Eridians for the first time in series history, the Nexus is a partially destroyed world with ancient Eridian technology everywhere and the story reveals major lore about the origins of the Vaults and the Vault Hunters' connection to the Eridians

The DLC adds Guardian enemies that are significantly more dangerous than the ones in the base game including new variants like Guardian Seers (which can predict your movement and shoot where you're going to be) and Guardian Anchors (which create gravity wells that pull you toward them)

Eridian Prophecy adds the Echo of the Ancients legendary SMG which creates ghostly duplicates that shoot alongside you, and the Eridian Beacon grenade mod which marks an area for orbital bombardment, the level cap increases to 78 and a new skill tree augment is added for each Vault Hunter that changes how their action skill works

DLC 4: Vault of the Lost

Vault of the Lost is the final DLC in the Season Pass and it's the culmination of the post-launch story arc, it takes place in the Drift a void space between dimensions where lost Vaults from across the universe have been pulled together, the entire DLC is a giant Vault-like dungeon crawl through interconnected rooms and arenas with the most challenging combat encounters in the game

Vault of the Lost introduces the "Vault Walker" enemy type which are corrupted Vault Hunters from alternate dimensions who use modified versions of the base game's Vault Hunter skills against you, fighting a Vault Walker who uses a Moze-like Iron Bear but with different weapons is a genuinely surprising and challenging encounter

The final boss Talos the Vault Keeper is the hardest boss in Borderlands 4 with 6 distinct phases and mechanics that require coordination in multiplayer, the reward for completing the DLC on Mayhem 11 is the Keeper's Key legendary class mod which is arguably the best all-around class mod in the game for any Vault Hunter

Free Content Updates

Not all post-launch content requires the Season Pass, Gearbox has committed to free content updates that add seasonal events new Vault Card seasons balance patches and quality of life improvements for all players regardless of DLC ownership, the free content so far includes the Bloody Harvest seasonal event the Revenge of the Cartels event and the Broken Hearts Day event

New Vault Card seasons are also free and each one adds a new 50-level reward track with exclusive legendary weapons cosmetics and Eridium bundles, the current Vault Card Season 4 is available to all players and its exclusive weapon the Hearthbreaker assault rifle is one of the best general-use weapons in the game

Is the Season Pass Worth It?

Honestly if you're enjoying Borderlands 4 and plan to play for more than 100 hours the Season Pass is absolutely worth it, each DLC adds 8-12 hours of story content plus new maps enemies and gear that significantly expand the endgame, the level cap increases alone are worth it if you're into build crafting because those extra skill points open up new build possibilities that aren't available in the base game

If you're a casual player who just wants to beat the main story and move on then the base game has plenty of content to keep you busy for 40-60 hours and you can skip the Season Pass without feeling like you're missing essential content, the core endgame loops of Mayhem mode boss farming and Circles of Slaughter are all available in the base game and the free seasonal events add variety throughout the year

The DLCs for BL4 are genuinely the best Gearbox has ever made for a Borderlands game and the Season Pass structure is much more consumer-friendly than the multiple season passes of BL3, if you're on the fence I'd recommend beating the main story first and then deciding if you want more content, the DLCs don't gate any essential endgame mechanics and they're designed to be played after you've experienced everything the base game has to offer
