Loot is the engine of Borderlands 4 honestly everything you do every boss you kill every arena you clear every side mission you complete it all comes back to one question was the drop worth it tbh I've spent literal days farming the same boss over and over and I mean this guide is basically everything I've learned about optimizing your loot per hour across every farming category so you don't waste time like I did ngl

Dedicated Drop Farming: Target What You Need

Each legendary item has a specific enemy or boss that drops it at an increased rate typically 10 to 15 percent on Mayhem 10 or 11 and this is honestly the most efficient way to get a specific item you know use the loot tables in our Legendary Weapons guide to find which boss drops your target item and here's the thing only farm dedicated sources I can't stress this enough never farm world drops for a specific item the loot pool is way too large and your odds of getting the exact item you want from a world drop are below 0.1 percent tbh I learned this the hard way spent 6 hours on world drops for a Kaoson and got nothing but vendor trash

Fastest dedicated farms by kill time: Graveward with 10 to 30 second kills and a huge dedicated pool honestly my favorite farm when I'm half asleep, Killavolt at 20 second kills with shock Monarch and you get the Monarch plus Transformer shield which is pretty much a two for one deal, Road Dog at 15 second kills dropping Hellwalker and Redline and ngl Road Dog is so fast you'll be drowning in Hellwalkers before you know it

World Drop Farming: When Quantity Matters

World drops are legendaries that can drop from any loot source basically anywhere and while they're honestly terrible for targeting specific items world drop farming is kind of ideal when you're building a new character and need a variety of gear I mean when I started my FL4K I had zero decent weapons and world drops literally saved that playthrough so here's the best world drop sources imo

Slaughter Shaft (Circle of Slaughter): 5 rounds and you get roughly 40 legendaries per complete run on Mayhem 10 or 11 which is honestly insane, takes about 20 to 30 minutes and it's the best world drop density in the base game no competition, also the final boss drops a guaranteed dedicated legendary which is a nice little bonus you know

Ruiner (DLC 3 Boss): 15 to 30 second kills with an optimal build honestly this thing melts so fast, drops 3 to 6 legendaries per kill plus Eridium and it's probably the fastest legendary per minute boss in the game though the dedicated pool is DLC 3 items only so your mileage may vary depending on what you're after

Arms Race (Designer's Cut DLC): Unique extraction mechanic where you start with basic white gear and extract legendaries at specific stations and tbh this mode has an exclusive loot pool that literally cannot be obtained anywhere else, essential for Plasma Coil and Tizzy and other Arms Race exclusives you get the idea, 10 to 15 minute runs with 2 to 4 extractions per run and ngl it's kind of fun once you get the hang of it

Eridium Farming: The Currency for Endgame

Eridium pays for anointment rerolls at 250 per reroll which is honestly brutal, raid boss entry at 500 per Hemovorous attempt yeah it adds up fast, and the Gun Gun that shoots legendaries for 250 Eridium basically a slot machine, so here's what I've found works best for efficient Eridium farming after way too many hours of testing:

The Voracious Canopy map on Eden-6 has 12 to 15 Eridium crystal clusters along a circular route and with a Stone artifact giving you plus 50 percent Eridium from crystals each cluster drops 15 to 25 Eridium, a 5 minute loop yields 150 to 250 Eridium and honestly this is the best repeatable method imo I've done this loop probably 200 times and it never gets old because the numbers are just that good. Also Ruiner boss farm drops 25 to 50 Eridium per kill with 15 to 30 second kill times giving you roughly 100 Eridium per minute with an optimal build which is pretty much the best per minute rate in the game. And then Slaughter Shaft completing all 5 rounds awards a bonus 500 Eridium crate which is a nice chunk for finishing something you were probably going to do anyway for world drops and stuff like that

Artifact and Class Mod Farming

Artifacts and class mods have the most RNG layers of any gear type I mean we're talking base item and prefix and 2 to 3 passive rolls and an artifact or class specific effect and getting a perfect roll is honestly the hardest grind in BL4 statistically speaking it's kind of a nightmare tbh. The Trials which are the Proving Grounds are honestly the most efficient source each Trial boss has a dedicated class mod or artifact pool and kill times of 2 to 4 minutes so it's not too painful. The Trial of Cunning for artifact pool and Trial of Fervor for class mod pool are the most time efficient in my experience I've run both probably 50 times each and the drop rates are solid. Complete them on Mayhem 10 or 11 for guaranteed legendary drops from the final chest and ngl sometimes you get something amazing and sometimes you get junk but that's pretty much the Borderlands experience you know
