BL4 Tyreen the Destroyer Boss Guide

Okay so Tyreen is the final boss of Borderlands 4 and honestly she's absolutely insane, like she merges with the Destroyer and becomes this colossal monster thing with three escalating phases and each one is more ridiculous than the last, I remember my first time fighting her I died probably 15 times before I even got to phase 3 and that was on normal mode, she's got these devastating raid wide attacks that cover the entire arena and you basically need to bring your absolute best build or you're just gonna have a bad time and keep running back from the fast travel station over and over like I did, but once you learn the patterns it's actually a really satisfying fight tbh, probably my favorite final boss in the series

Farming Strategy

Tbh farming Tyreen is a long fight not a fast farm and you're never gonna be doing 45 second loops like Traunt but the dedicated drops are honestly worth it because the King's Call and Queen's Call pistols are literally best-in-slot for FL4K builds and you kinda need them if you're serious about endgame and I mean like you really need them they're that good, the run from the fast travel point is about 30 seconds which isn't terrible but it's not great either and you're gonna be making that run a lot. In Phase 3 Tyreen gets a crit spot on her back and the Monarch with bipod mode absolutely melts that spot and you'll need high accuracy weapons because the crit spot isn't huge and missing shots is just wasting time and I've wasted plenty of ammo missing that spot when I first started farming her. And the adds are actually key in phase 3 because she spawns endless mobs and you should be using them for Second Wind procs and kill skill triggers instead of ignoring them, I made that mistake early on and just kept dying with no way to get back up and it was so frustrating. Also during the Void Beam attack in phase 3 you gotta jump onto the elevated rock platforms to avoid the floor damage because if you stay on the ground you just die and there's nothing you can do about it, I've died to the floor like 50 times because I forgot to jump and then you just sit there watching your health drain going well that was dumb. But honestly the best VH for this is Fl4k with a Fade Away crit build that deletes phase 3 in seconds or Zane with Clone and Cannon for constant damage uptime and the clone draws aggro from her and all the adds which is super helpful and stuff like that, you get the idea, anyway just keep at it and she'll drop something good eventually, maybe

Detailed Fight Strategy

Tyreen the Destroyer is fought across multiple phases on the Pandora desert platform and honestly the arena itself is pretty cool looking but also kinda annoying because the edges drop off into nothing and I've definitely fallen off while dodging attacks more times than I'd like to admit phase one she possesses the Destroyer's body and she does these huge AOE slam attacks sweeping laser beams and energy orbs that track slowly but hit hard like really hard so don't get hit by them I mean you can shoot the orbs before they reach you and each one drops health which is super helpful especially if you're running a build without much sustain and honestly that mechanic has saved me so many times when I was out of health vials and had no other way to heal and then those little health pickups from the orbs just kept me alive and let me finish the fight. So stay mobile use the rock formations for cover from the laser and aim for the glowing weak points on her back and shoulders, when she slams jump because the shockwave is wider than it looks but the jump window is generous enough that you can react to it, tbh the first phase is the easiest once you learn the patterns but it still catches people off guard and you'll feel dumb when it happens but it happens to everyone.

Then phase two she climbs onto the back wall of the arena and rains projectiles while summoning Vault Hunter clones and these clones are honestly the most annoying part of the whole fight they have your abilities and can down you fast if you ignore them and I've been killed by my own clone's action skill so many times and it never stops being frustrating. So clear clones damage Tyreen repeat and don't get greedy with your DPS.

And phase three she absorbs energy and grows larger with all attacks doing more damage but having longer telegraphs this is basically the DPS check phase and her health pool is massive but her crit spots are bigger too so pop your action skill and unload everything you've got and hope for the best, and the adds in this phase are actually helpful because you can farm them for Second Winds and ammo and they keep spawning literally forever so there's always something to kill if you go down or whatever.

Best Vault Hunters

Amara and Tyreen is like a thematic matchup and honestly Amara also happens to be really good at this fight, Ties That Bind on the clones shares damage to Tyreen and Sustainment keeps you alive through all the AOE chip damage that's constantly hitting you, I've used Amara for most of my Tyreen kills and it just works really well. Moze with Iron Bear can tank through most of Tyreen's attacks like it's nothing and the explosive damage hits multiple crit spots at once which is kinda busted honestly, if you just want to get through the fight without dying 20 times Moze is the safest pick imo. FL4K is glass cannon territory but Fade Away with a high crit weapon during phase three can literally delete the remaining health bar in seconds and the damage is insane when it works and then you're just sitting there watching her health bar evaporate and it's so satisfying.

Zane's clone can draw clone aggro in phase two which is super helpful because you can just let the clone tank while you deal with the real boss and Barrier gives you a safe zone to shoot from so you don't have to worry about the projectile spam as much. Ngl my ranking goes Fl4k for speed kills then Moze for safety then Amara then Zane, but honestly any VH can do this fight with the right gear and enough patience, you know.

Speed Farming

Let's be real Tyreen is not a speed farm and you should not expect fast kills, the dedicated drops are worth it though because the King's Call and Queen's Call pistols are best-in-slot for FL4K builds and you basically need them if you want to optimize your damage output, I mean you literally cannot max out a FL4K build without at least one of these pistols and that's just how it is. The run from the fast travel point is about 30 seconds. Whatever. But bring shock for phase one shields incendiary for her health bar in phases two and three, and the phase transitions have invincibility windows that waste time so hold your burst until she's fully transitioned otherwise you're just throwing away ammo. And honestly the worst part is the unskippable cutscenes and the transition animations, you just have to sit there and wait while she does her thing and you can't speed it up at all, so the fight takes however long it takes and you just gotta accept that and move on with your life. Maybe throw on a podcast or something while you farm, idk. It helps.

Common Death Causes

The sweeping laser in phase one catches people who hide behind destructible cover and here's the thing the rocks break after one laser hit so you think you're safe and then the cover just disintegrates and you're standing there like an idiot taking the full beam to the face, I've died to that so many times and I still do it sometimes because I forget which rocks are safe. The vault hunter clones in phase two overwhelm you while you're focused on Tyreen and suddenly there's three of them shooting at you and you're down before you even realize what happened and you just stare at the screen like wait what just happened. And the energy orbs track you into a corner where you can't dodge and that's basically a death sentence every single time, I swear those orbs have better AI than most players I've matched with. Then the final phase AOE slam hits twice if you mistime the jump because the second slam comes faster than the first and you land right into it, that one feels cheap every time it happens and honestly I think the double slam timing is bugged but who knows maybe it's intentional. But also the Void Beam in phase three has killed me through platforms more times than I can count because the hitbox is janky and sometimes you think you're safe but nope dead gotta run back from the fast travel station, fun times, anyway you get the idea it's a fight where everything can kill you

Lore and Story Context

So Tyreen Calypso is the main antagonist of Borderlands 3 and her return in BL4 as a memory echo boss fight is a nice callback honestly, you fight her essence trapped in the Destroyer's rift not the actual Tyreen since she's canonically dead after BL3 and I kinda like that they brought her back this way instead of doing some cheap resurrection plot. But anyway the echo fight is still canonically significant because it explains how the Destroyer's energy lingered on Pandora and affected the new vault which is pretty important lore stuff and honestly I wish more games did posthumous boss encounters like this instead of just pretending dead villains never existed. The voice lines during the fight reference events from BL3 and there's some genuinely funny dialogue if you're playing as Amara who canonically fought her before, like there's this one line where Tyreen recognizes Amara and calls her out and it's just a nice touch that makes repeat playthroughs more interesting. I'm not 100% sure if the dialogue changes for other VHs but it probably does at least a little bit and honestly the writing for this fight is way better than I expected for a posthumous boss encounter, you know, just one of those things where the devs actually put in the effort and stuff
